About the role
As a Laboratory Scientist, you’ll oversee the scientific aspects of standard work processes and output results in our Testing Laboratories. Taking responsibility for the training schedule within the laboratory, you’ll promote continuous education and conduct annual professional development sessions that are open to all our Production staff nationwide.
As the subject matter expert in immunohaematology and/or virology, you’ll collaborate closely with our Testing staff to lead investigations into process deviations and contribute to corrective and preventive actions initiated by our Scientific and Technical Services team. You’ll also lend your SME expertise to projects related to our Testing functions and actively participate in the review of outcomes from the quality assurance programs.
A day in the role will see you:
• Coaching and Assessing: providing training and assessments and enhancing the capability of our people by sharing knowledge, expertise, and education.
• Promoting ongoing education in immunohaematology and/or virology.
• Collaborating with our Production Supervisors to schedule training.
• Conducting off-track sample investigations and overseeing our Testing team's adherence to standard operating procedures.
• Leading deviation investigations where procedure or process failure occurs.
• Reviewing and approving routine screening results within agreed timeframes.
• Conducting start-of-day control checks for Alinity and NEO instruments.
• Performing manual result releases for Alinity-I instruments.
• Investigating potential thrombocytopenia cases through microscopic examination.
• Participating in the blood grouping discrepancy incident management team as an immunohaematology scientist.
• Reviewing outcomes of manual blood grouping and NEO panel interpretation.
Sound interesting? Here’s what we’re looking for:
• Bachelor of Biomedical Science with > 2 years’ experience preferred in diagnostic or blood screening laboratories OR a general science degree with > 5 years’ experience preferred in blood screening laboratories.
• Demonstrated knowledge and experience in the fields of either immunohaematology or virology.
• Demonstrated experience and success providing workplace training to staff members.
• Strong communication skills and an eagerness to build capability in others through training and coaching with an ability to adapt style to diverse groups from across the business.
• Availability to work across a rotating roster Monday to Saturday(7:30AM to 10:00PM) covering operational hours.
• Availability to participate in on-call roster - Monday to Sunday
