About the role
DonateLife Victoria (DLV) coordinates all organ donation across the state. A team of dedicated medical and nursing specialists work within Victorian hospitals to provide professional services and encourage best practice to increase organ and tissue donation rates.
Are you an exceptional communicator and want to play a vital role in supporting families during their most difficult moments, while helping to save and improve lives through organ and tissue donation? We invite you to become a Donation Conversation Specialist, a unique opportunity to increase the consent of organ and tissue donation across Victoria thus making a profound difference in the Victorian community.
In this newly created pilot role you will use your outstanding communication skills and empathy to guide families through acute grief and bereavement, offering the gift of organ and tissue donation. Working closely with families and health services across Metropolitan Melbourne, you will lead sensitive conversations, obtain formal consent, and provide ongoing support throughout the donation process. Other responsibilities will include;
- Conduct formal consent interviews with donor families, ensuring clarity and respect

Increase organ and tissue donation consent rates across Victoria

Deliver clear, sensitive information about end-of-life processes to families

Facilitate remembrance activities and provide supportive materials to families
Sound interesting? Here’s what we are looking for;
- Tertiary qualifications in Social Work, Psychology, Nursing or similar
- Expert communicator ideally with experience in the grief and bereavement space in a Healthcare setting. Experience in healthcare, counselling, or a related field is highly valued
- Empathy, emotional resilience, and a calm, supportive approach with an ability to handle sensitive conversations with professionalism and compassion
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and identify, assess and resolve problems with a solution focused mindset
- Advanced negotiation skills and ability to communicate appropriately in time critical circumstances
- Strong organisational skills with attention to detail in documentation and follow-up
- Intermediate level computer skills
- Hold a drivers licence and have the ability to travel to all Metropolitan Melbourne Health Services
