About the role  

 

We are currently seeking a full-time Medical Scientist for our South Australian Transplantation & Immunogenetics Service team (SATIS) to provide diagnostic laboratory testing for transplantation matching, identification of genes and antibodies affecting the immune response for tissue typing and investigations into leucocyte-related transfusion reactions.

 

In this role, you will continually look for ways to optimise work processes, actively learning and adapting your approach to achieve great outcomes. You will act with a sense of urgency, high energy and enthusiasm and be able to relate openly and comfortably with everyone. You will value interpersonal savvy and self-awareness and reflect on your own strengths and areas for development, making you a valued contributor.

 

Within the role, you'll be accountable for:

 

  • HLA matching of transplant recipients and donors as well as provision of immunogenetic services
  • HLA compatibility for transfusion purposes
  • Conducting scientific, technical or specialist testing and procedures
  • Reviewing, analyse and interpreting results and making recommendations for next steps
  • Managing the receipt, input and tracking of clinical data and samples
  • Role in managing the ordering and receipting laboratory consumables
  • Showing pride in uploading our high safety and quality standards
  • Sharing expertise, education and training

 

Sound interesting? Here’s what we’re looking for: 

 

  • A minimum education level of Bachelor of Science (Hons) with a major in Immunology, Genetics or related field (essential here)
  • Higher qualifications in a related field an advantage
  • Experience in a pathology laboratory or similar environment (desirable)
  • Confidence performing a range of technical processes and be familiar with a range of scientific software packages
  • Professional written and verbal communication with a focus on attention to detail
  • Have an understanding of quality systems with previous experience in writing of validation reports (desirable)
  • Digital and technical aptitude

 

This is a Permanent full-time position, based out of the Women’s and Children’s Hospital in North Adelaide. Working days would be Monday to Friday however flexibility is required to cover on-call hours. Rosters for on-call hours is prepared way in advance.
