About the role
Our Donor Mobile Unit team are seeking a motivated Registered Nurse who has fantastic customer-facing experience and a genuine passion to deliver stand out service to our donors. As a Registered Nurse with South Australia mobile team, you will support our donors through their donation process, while working collaboratively with a small but highly skilled team to achieve collection targets & deliver an exceptional blood donation experience for our donors.
The South Australian DMU Team (Donor Mobile Unit) operate our unit throughout the vibrant rural regions of South Australia, travelling regionally, rurally and locally to collect lifesaving blood donations. As a travelling team, the South Australia Mobile Unit includes extensive vehicle travel up to 4 hours from the teams fixed centre – Port Adelaide.The successful candidate will be need to be comfortable with these long drive periods in company provided vehicles. Airplane travel is also a requirement of this role – up to 1.5 hour flights departing from Adelaide Airport.
Many of our sites require travel away from home for up to 5 days per week. On average, ¾ of all sites in a 4 week period incorporate travel away from home – with some months having higher or lower travel requirements pending the demand for life-giving blood donations. Accommodation & additional allowances are provided for shifts that require nights away from home.
This position is a unique opportunity to work in a motivated operational collections team with life-giving purpose and experience the wonderful state of South Australia and all the sights it has to offer.
A day in the centre could see you:
- Greet and interview potential donors to understand their eligibility and suitability to donate
- Complete routine blood pressure and haemoglobin tests
- Set up machines, various tubing and collection bags
- Insert and remove needles safely to collect whole blood, plasma, and platelets
- Provide clinical oversight and guide other team members in the blood collection process
- Manage adverse donor reactions by providing instructions and physical assistance
- Monitor donors post-donation and assist them to rebook for their next donation
Our paid and flexible self-paced training program has a balance between on-the-job practice and online class schedules to ensure that you are well supported. This training program will be completed at the Donor Mobile Unit’s fixed site – Port Adelaide Donor Centre.
Besides having a real passion to deliver an amazing donor experience, you’ll need to be able to:
- Occasionally lift between 9-22.7kgs
- Frequently stand, walk and bend to set up and pack down machines and blood products
- Use your nursing expertise and hold a current AHPRA registration.

Be flexible to work varied shifts on a fortnightly rotating roster from Monday to Saturday up to 10 hours a day
- Hold a current Australian Drivers License with no restrictions
- Be comfortable travelling/driving long distances (up to 4 hours)
- Have demonstrated experience working as an independent Registered Nurse
