Discover life-giving possibilities

Lifeblood is more than just a job or a career, it’s an opportunity to be part of something that matters. As an organisation, our purpose is simple: to give life. Together, we want to help you build a fulfilling career with Lifeblood.

About the role

We’re looking for a Business & Laboratory Manager to lead operations at our Victorian Transplantation and Immunogenetics Services (TIS) laboratory.  You’ll be an experienced operations leader who’s financially savvy, people-focused and thrives in a fast-paced, highly regulated environment and has experience in a relevant background (i.e. scientific, medical, pathology, etc).

Working closely with scientific, clinical and laboratory teams, you’ll lead the efficient delivery of critical testing and matching services that support transplantation, immunogenetics and HLA compatibility. You will have experience in operational planning and a record in driving performance, innovation and successfully implementing change initiatives.

As part of the TIS leadership team, you’ll shape strategy, champion continuous learning, and support research and development initiatives. You’ll also keep us audit-ready and fully accredited. While clinical and scientific decisions sit with our expert Scientific Lead and Clinical Oversight group, your leadership will be key to empowering our people and to delivering excellence in service.

Sound interesting? Here’s what we are looking for;

  • Proven leadership in a fast-paced, highly regulated environment, with experience leading large, technical and/or scientific teams.
  • Strong financial management skills—budgeting, cost control and business planning.
  • A people-first approach, with the ability to inspire, motivate and foster continuous improvement and quality outcomes.
  • Hands-on experience in recruitment, training, rostering and performance management.
  • Clear and confident communication skills—able to make complex information simple for any audience.
  • Senior-level experience managing multidisciplinary scientific services.
  • Solid understanding of quality systems, risk management and compliance, including regulators, WHS and environmental standards.
  • Skilled in project and change management, with the confidence to make swift decisions while working as part of a national team.
  • A strong focus on employee wellbeing and adaptability in a constantly evolving environment.
  • Tertiary qualifications in a relevant field (such as Laboratory Management, Operations, Biomedical Science or Business).

This is a permanent full-time position based out of Lifeblood’s Melbourne Processing Centre. Due to the nature of the role, there is a requirement to be onsite. However, Lifeblood is proud to accommodate flexible working and we are open to conversations around what this means for you.

Thrive in a diverse culture that cares for your wellbeing

We’re a diverse and inclusive bunch. We’re proud to foster an environment where all people can come together to achieve their very best. Whether it’s workplace safety or work/life balance, we look after our employees’ varying needs. As part of the Lifeblood team, you’ll have access to a generous salary packaging program, plus a great range of rewards like discounts on insurance, groceries, food & beverage, department stores, travel, and more.
